Mini-boss is a single mob, sometimes in a unique room that could spawn almost anywhere in the room generation, it's larger than gladiator mobs.

"Delve objective completed" seems to be just for decoration...
there are two objectives to satisfy, the delve portion and getting to the boss room portion, before it moves forward to defeat the boss.
it's not uncommon to hear that complaint 'the objective is complete, why isn't it working?'
