What are your thoughts regarding the merging of console accounts and clubs to PC?

    Hello everyone,

I'm Cyrawnis and I've been playing Trove since it released for console back in 2016. A lot of console players believe that Gamigo is going to pull the plug on us (consoles) due to limited resources at some point in the near future. That would really suck with how much time and money players have invested into the game.

I am curious as to what thoughts you all have in regards to Gamigo allowing us the option of having our accounts and clubworlds being imported to PC. What issues do you forsee? Do you think it would enrich the PC community?

Personally, I worry about my club. I want to be able to import it to PC so that when they pull the plug on console we can live on and keep playing. I've enjoyed my time in Trove and I wouldn't want to see everyone's hard work on console be deleted.

@gedc, are 1 time 1 way imports from console to PC an option that is on the table?

Thinking about this, and I came up with the following questions.

I'm assuming that this would be a one way move. At the time that you would be moving the account, any clubs that you are the President in are also moved over. (Name conflicts?)
Would you be willing to rename your account and club worlds if there are conflicts? Hopefully there is a way to check for name conflicts prior to moving/export/import.

What happens to any members in your clubs past the President? As all the members were on the other platform/database, do you move with no members? or does it let you keep members (How to track this between the two platforms?)

Name conflicts are a good call. Perhaps we'd be allowed to rename them in that case during the moving process? I would be okay with renaming my club if need be. As far as members, donation counts, clubits, etc... I think total clubit count of club donations would transfer, the club would be disbanded on console, and the roster would be reset during the move. Everyone would loose their counts as we can't decide who would opt in or out of transferring to PC. That's up to the individual member.

Is there history of PSN/Xbox letting this happen?
I would think if Gamigo did this they would get black balled from these platforms at least for a time period.
Who owns the data? Gamigo or the console platforms?
Few questions we need to look at before we even get our hopes up.
    That being said.

Name conflicts aside the only issue I see is value/market stuff that may crash a few items values for a bit.
Bringing console people on is no different then having a good update and players return in bulk for a time.

If we don't get a option and the game losses support, I for one want everything I bought in the last 6 months refunded as with these types of games you buy based on the expectation of updates and continued development.

I don't know the answers to your questions.

All of our characters and items are housed in a database, I assume. I will also assume that the tables, schemas, and infrastructure of the console database is (if not an exact copy) very similar to the PC database. Building a tool to insert our characters, clubs, etc from the console db to the PC db doesn't seem like that big of a deal. I don't know their backend, but those are my hopes.

On another note, cross platform play is becoming increasingly common. I understand Trove isn't built for cross platform, and I doubt they would do it. Just throwing it our there that psn/xbox are open to that model, and I doubt psn/xbox own the data.

Quick look, seems Grand Theft Auto V has had ps4 to pc account transfers happen.
I'm sure since this has happened for Grand Theft Auto V its happened more but finding one sample is enough to know
Perhaps for a fee this would happen.

I just wrote a well written reply, but then when i clicked submit it gave me an error, so bare with me on errors in this one

First, you really can't compare gta and trove, the games are too different.
Also, you can't compare gamigo and rockstar games.
An approximate 1,000-person team developed Grand Theft Auto V
How many people been on trove, 50? and how many do we have now 5-15?

While this is a great idea it will never happen.

There is a few huge issues with this suggestion.
    1. Duplicated user names, club names and world ID's, alone sorting this out will be painful for the team, but also who got dips on the original names? the pc players? the console players?
    2. Servers, how can they handle all this extra data? (I mean how can they even handle the current)
    3. Market, the market is currently very different on the platforms, what impact would a merge give? Due to console being behind in patches, the prices would get very wierd and probably take a while to normalize.
    4. They recently started to delete old event items and other stuff, which would mess up the game i imagine, if they imported non-existent items in the game. To fix this, they would have to push console platforms up to latest patches. Which already would give months delay.

and then the biggest issue: Resources
Does the team have the resources to a merge like this= no
Does the team have resources to bugfix potential critical issues= no
Is it even worth it? i mean, how many would even jump to play on pc? i imagine they rather just go find another game and then this would just be a big money loss.

I can assure you there is ZERO intention to stop console development.

This is a question that comes up frequently (and its a variation on the cross play).

Technically, we support this - for example we allow transfers from PC -> PTS for testing. All of our internal environments are cross play (and have for as far back as the Defiance 360/PS3 days). Its not a technical problem.

But, there are various reasons why we dont allow this. Here are a couple (but by no means all) of the major ones:
    1. Business/Legal Reasons: Handling royalties, trading of items purchased with real world dollars on a different environment is fraught with many edge cases. Refunds, Customer Service, Fraud etc. This section could be a category of many reasons on its own. There are legal (including regional) points to be aware of as well.
    2. Gameplay/Economy: PC has been around far longer then consoles. Importing of players and potentially entire clubs can cause economic imbalance. Items have been released that are exclusive to a specific environment or region, sometimes with contractual obligations. At the least, as a player I would be upset if other players had something that was impossible for me to have ever gotten.

None of the above are showstoppers. Its a question of balancing resources, and considering the risk to implement.

I'm well aware other games/companies (likely with many (many) times the resources of our team) have done, or are attempting, variations on the above.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my thread. I'm happy that this is the case. No offense, but at last a grain of hope!
