View Full Version : The chessboard of... (FINISHED?)

So the chessboard has been finished up a few minutes ago. I only had one major headache -- trying to get the BLUE pieces to represent as close enough to the originals in a 7x7 square, while the height of the tallest piece is 9. There's also some confict -- I originally wanted to go for 5x5, but there was no room for detail.

7x7 though, I can put a bit of detail, but as the picture can show it presents some neighbor conflicts.

I had the idea of blue being white, and red being black, to represent good and evil respectively. The black King is the only unique piece on the board, with the red horns. Here is an inital
screenshot from an aerial view. More will follow in future edits.

EDIT: Extra pictures.

#1: White at left, Black at right.
#2: View of Black, from White.

Nice chess set. I never actually liked using N personally to represent the kNight but some people do prefer it.

If you're open to alternate naming you could try H for Horse, S for Springer, or R for Rider (and rename the Rook: C for Castle, T for Tower) Lastly you can display the traditional algebraic notation ie. letters A through H sequentially from left to right instead of the piece nomenclature.

I couldn't see the neighbour conflict you noted in the 7x7. Where were the issues?
Any plans to add a game clock next to it?

There is a neighbor conflict between the queen and bishop -- mainly because parts are too close to each other, that the cubes mesh together.

I didn't really think of adding a game clock to the side, and the file nomenclature is just to show what goes where. I'll be changing that around, but I've spent enough time on it today.

My plan when I return to it though is to increase the height of the Queen, to better represent the fact that the piece is supposed to be tall.

ADDON: When I do make the gameclock, it will probably be taller than the pieces, but the actual display of the clocks will be simple. I just gotta figure out how to best represent circles; maybe I should just stick with squares..
